In development: early access

Know the farmer before you lend or insure.

Ask one question about a farmer you have never met. Receive a signed answer they agreed to share, instead of starting with a field visit.

What you receive is an attestation, not a file.

An attestation is a short, signed statement of verified facts about one farmer, for one purpose, for a limited time.

The levels behind it are earned from evidence collected on the farm: a verified national ID, a boundary walked on foot, photos taken on the parcel and officer visits. They are decided by fixed rules and reviewed by people. How the levels work.

How a request works.

  1. You ask

Send the farmer’s phone number, the purpose (for example a loan assessment), what you want to see and for how long.

  2. The farmer decides

They see your name, the purpose, what you asked for and when it ends, and tap Allow or Decline. Farmers who opted in earlier to share with lenders get an SMS receipt instead, with one tap to withdraw.

  3. FaWCOS issues an attestation

A signed statement of the verified facts the farmer agreed to share. Never their raw records.

  4. You read it

Every read is logged, and the farmer can see who looked and when.

  5. It ends

Consent lasts at most 12 months and is never extended in place. If the farmer withdraws, the attestation is withdrawn with it.

What you can ask for.

Can be shared under consent

  • Verification levels
  • Tier
  • Verified farm area
  • Crops
  • Seasons
  • Open flags

Always needs the farmer’s own tap

  • Name
  • Phone number
  • Last four digits of the NIN
  • Farm boundary

Personal details and the farm’s exact boundary are never shared on a standing opt-in.

Where it fits in your work.

Banks and lenders

  • Loan screening. Is the applicant real, is the farm real, how large is it and is it farmed? Answer the first question before you send an officer.
  • Loan sizing. Base the amount on hectares measured on the ground, not on a stated estimate.
  • In-season monitoring. Activity levels show whether planting and inputs happened on the parcel.
  • Fewer bad files. Duplicate identities, overlapping parcels and inflated areas are flagged before money moves.

Insurers

  • Underwriting. Price cover on a verified area and crop, the two figures most often overstated.
  • Index and weather cover. Walked boundaries give the exact location that a weather or satellite trigger needs.
  • Claims. Check that the farm and the crop existed, with photo evidence taken on the parcel, before you pay.

Built so trust runs both ways.

  • No database, ever.

You receive attestations issued under a farmer’s consent. There is no endpoint that returns raw farmer records.

  • Existence is never revealed.

Asking about a number that is not registered gives exactly the same answer as one that is. The API cannot be used to find out who uses FaWCOS.

  • Levels cannot be bought.

Levels come from signed field evidence and fixed rules. Neither you nor the farmer’s programme can raise them.

  • Every share is on the record.

Each request, decision and read is logged, and the farmer can see the full history.

How access will work.

The API is in development. These are the terms early-access partners will join on.

Test access

Test keys and a sandbox of made-up farmers, so your team can build both outcomes, allow and decline, without touching real people.

Live access

Live keys after a review by the FaWCOS team: your registered business, a named responsible officer, the purposes you will ask consent for, and a signed data-sharing agreement. Requests outside your approved purposes are refused.

For your developers

Help shape it with your lending or cover in mind.

Tell us the decision you want to make about farmers and we will show you what the attestation can answer. Terms are agreed with each partner.
